The 1841 letter to A. C. Anderson directs him to extend assistance to the United States Exploring Expedition and to Dr. Richmond of the Nisqually Mission (WA MSS 319). The 1850 letter to Peter Ogden inquires about the possibility of building a sawmill at Port Discovery (WA MSS 320). The 1850 deed is for land in Oregon City which John McLoughlin sold to James Winston. Annotations on the deed record the transfer of the property to other owners, such as Noyes Smith (WA MSS 321).

Elwood Evans (1828-1898), born in Philadelphia, went to Oregon Territory in 1851 as deputy collector of customs at Nisqually. Alexander Caulfield Anderson (1814-1884) was a clerk for the Hudson's Bay Company in 1832 at Fort Vancouver.
